As promised, this blog is dedicated to the back story of this wedding. This is part 2! You can find part 1 of this post here. Joe & Shannon’s wedding was held at Roloff Farms in Helvetia, OR and filmed by TLC’s Little People Big World: Wedding Farm. I saved this blog post for after the show aired on Tuesday night because none of us got to watch the show before then. We had no idea how things would play out. The producers managed to whip up a little drama with Shannon’s “missing” wedding gown to keep the show exciting. The only real drama involved another vendor. This needs a bit of clarification. The bride and groom hired a photo booth rental company for a bit of fun for their wedding guests. The first vendor didn’t work out so they hired someone else. But rental company #1 wouldn’t let it go and showed up at the wedding (some people’s children!), enter drama. During the filming both Matt Roloff and the Wedding Planner referred to this rental company as the “photo company”. This was a photo booth, not another photographer! Whew, thanks for letting me get that off my chest! Anyway, the photo booth was a HUGE hit and everyone had fun dressing up in costume and snapping away!
Here is the rest of the story. I mentioned that I arrived on Thursday to spend the weekend with the family. What a terrific family! The booked a block of rooms together on one wing of a hotel so they could be all together! The kids ran between rooms, so fun! I had to include a photo of the igloo cooler. It was full of drinks the entire weekend but started out as airplane luggage. Brilliant right? Duck tape and DONE! I was told that that is how Hawaiian people roll on vacation.
The entire weekend was full of fun family gatherings including a huge family rehearsal dinner and a bridal shower. When the day of the wedding arrived, we woke up to a 70 degree day with clear blue skys! The Roloff Farm was in perfect order. The ladies started getting ready at the hotel and finished up at the farm. The photograph of the main gate of the Roloff Farm and home is below. Guests enter through the white gates on the left and drive up the hill to the barn. After you park your vehicle in the designation area, you walk through the breezeway in the barn, under a shell and flowered wreath and past a warm greeting from Shannon and Joe!
During the ceremony and reception it was a case of the dueling cameras. At any time there were between 3-5 cameras on the bride and groom. These camera people had one goal, get the shot. During the ceremony, I was confined to one small area to the left at the end of the aisle. At one point there was a camera person directly to my right, over head on a roving boon, one at the front of the aisle to the right, and one on either side of the bride and groom. I was thrilled to see that I had a primo position for the first kiss. As I snapped my shutter, a wedding guest decided to do the same on her ipad. Ah modern technology. I did manage to snap off a beautiful touching moment during the cermony sans ipad or camera people! Victory!
