The One in the Cold Weather

Brrrrr…

It’s basically a snowless Alaska up here this year in Spokane Valley, WA. We’ve been freezing our backsides off in freezing temperatures this spring. It’s great, my favorite. Just kidding, I deeply revile the cold. Shouldn’t it be gone by now? I found this meme posted on Twitter and yeah, that just about covers it. However, just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you can’t get amazing portraits done!

At Home

The great thing about an at homes session is that you can do both indoor and outdoor. A quick trip indoors can keep small children or elderly family member from getting too cold. It also give a natural lifestyle quality to the session as you can see here. Home is where your family is cozy and comfortable.

Moving Your Session Inside

If outdoors doesn’t do it for you, why not move indoors? Your home can be a terrific place to do your family portraits. The session below is one done at the client’s home. If you have a group too large for portraits at your home, consider renting a location like an Airbnb for portraits, a beautiful location with loads of light flooding the windows, or a large mouth stone fireplace would make for grand photos!

Less Stress

Another benefit of an at home session is lower stress. Home is where you have the best snacks, the extra pair of gloves you forgot to put on, or the clean shirt after the other one was muddied. Home is a great place for family portraits. You don’t have to drive to a location or drive back. At home, we can shoot in ANY weather!

Creative Sessions

In a home session we have so many possibilities. You can book a themed session around a holiday (Christmas tree session anyone) or around an activity like backing in the kitchen. I have a little secret for you, photographers love photographing the everyday and ordinary in their own homes. These are my favorite types of photographs for my own family. Some of my favorite images of my kids include costumes, muddy hands and faces, and an everyday dance in the sprinklers, splash the puddles in yellow boots, blowing dandelion moments.

F Family

The session below is the F. Family. This session was booked at their home. This is especially successful when you have very small children. We were able to do both an indoor and outdoor session.
